Week 3: Robotics & Art
Robotics: The end as we all know it
I thought this section was very interesting, what stood out to me as a huge sci-fi nerd and fan, I found the idea of human biology and robotics combining in an artistic way. According to articles like the Atlantic, sci-fi shows like Westworld hint at a very scary prospect of the world being taken over by robots one day and someday having AI look and act so close to humans that it becomes impossible to tell the difference.
When we look at real-life examples of this happening, we can already see various artists utilize AI in their exhibits and if I am being honest, seeing one of them in person is absolutely terrifying. According to the observer, there are exhibits that showcase AI inspired art and in many cases, these artists reflect on the negatives that will come about having such integrated AI in our society.
Similarly, a lot of this has already bled into the real world, this can be seen in the famous AI robot Sophia who was named the first Robot citizen of a nationally recognized country. According to the new time's article, " this illustrates the rising power of artificial intelligence". Personally, these new innovations in AI technology get the science nerd in me really excited, but the inner Elon musk in me is also absolutely frightened because he claims AI can be worse than nuclear weapons.
